Cost Analysis

Labor / Time
Two, 1/2″ emt conduit runs eighty feet long were made next to each other with two ninties at each end. one run had regular nineties, the other had long radius ones.

The actual time to tape three #12 wires together and push them through eighty feet of ½” EMT with four 90° bends was calculated for both standard bends ( bent with a Benfield bender) and long radius bends (bent using the Ericksen Bender).

It was not possible to push the wire through the run with the four regular nineties, so we had to use two people to push the fish tape, tie the wire on, pull the fish tape and feed the wire.

The total time for pulling the wire through the conduit bent with a standard bender was 16 man/minutes

The total time for pushing the wire through the run with the long radius nineties was 3.25 man/minutes.

This bender will be great on a service truck!

You make the decision, 16-minutes or 3.25-minutes, savings of 12.75-minutes per eighty foot run.

Materials
The ½” EMT long radius ninety uses 4″ less EMT than the short radius ninety.

This means that a 1/2″ run with four nineties will be sixteen inches shorter than the same run with regular nineties!

The 3/4″ and 1″ long radius bends also use less conduit than the regular bends.
If you bend 500 – ½” nineties, then 166′ of ½” EMT, connectors, couplings, straps, j-boxes, blanks, ground screws, wire nuts and the number of copper wires X 166′ will be eliminated, add to this the 3/4″ and 1″ nineties bent with the long radius bender, and this will be a substantial savings in labor and materials.
Additionally, multiple conduits of ½”, ¾”, and 1″ can be ran in any order on a uni-strut rack, keeping them close so the straps touch,(see image gallery).

Conclusion
There will be less labor and material used if the Long Radius Bender is used.
Although it comes close, this bender is not intended to replace other ½”, ¾”, & 1″ EMT benders
There are always a few situations where the short radius bend is the only possibility.

IDEAL FOR A SERVICE TRUCK!

AT THE END OF THE DAY, THE USE OF THE ERICKSEN LONG RADIUS BENDER WILL BE A PLUS.
